I would say their just blanks castings are made for various applications and not all holes etc are used.
Result on the pump that looks like salt corrosion I would be looking at the tank filler too

Don't think there is a filter in the tank. Nothing on the end of the pickup.

Oh the tank cap maybe? It's a hulk tank and the cap, well when you open the air vent you can see fresh air through the gap it's just a hole.

Some are bad for that just protect it from water even with a water separator you can have problems prevention better than cure

You should see the amount of water coming over the tank easier said than done! I have a flexible tank but it leeks around the top fitting.

Looking back at your video it's a lot of water coming over the transom on the tank!

What prop are you using?
And engine height? Think mines about 48mm at the moment? Yours is quite low. For flat water you want to raise the engine.

Maybe tried switch round your tank so the filler caps towards the front

Going to be using the boat at sea a lot more once it's running good. It's been lifted a little bit since that video. Standard property for zapcat as far as I know. Haven't looked for pitch on it yet.

Took the boat out this morning for a test run and things are looking good. Hit 37 knots which is good enough for me. The engine accelerates nicely and runs really well at WOT. Idle was a little low and it cut out a couple of times coming from higher revs then back down to idle but I've adjusted that so that should be fine now. Runs a little funny in the middle of the power band, coughs occasionally and it gains and loses power randomly even when not adjusting the throttle. Raising the engine half an inch has stopped the water flowing over the transom so that's a big improvement.
Thanks everyone for your input during this project I now have a fun new toy for the summer!

Might try adding a steering damper!
