Tohatsu 9.8 - 2 stroke oil ratio?

If the Fates are on my side, I will take delivery of a 2006 example of the above on Tuesday. Every seller (3 and 1 "not a seller") that I have spoken to has said that the oil ratio is 100:1 (my guy was running his rich at 70:1 - to be sure to be sure ). Said bloke has lost his manual

However, all the info I see on the web says 50:1 for these motors! Am I missing something? Obviously I want to use the right mix for the mad rip testing session that is bound to follow...

Still on the 2 stroke oil theme, I have a distinct surplus of XD100 about me so can I use this in place of TCW-3? I'm thinking yes, if possibly a touch "Pearls before Swine"

The Twatsoo brochure says 'pre-mix 50:1'

Don't know about the XD100, but the Merc equivalent DFI oil is NOT suitable for use as a pre-mix in 'old skool' 2-strokes.

Lol - not so "rich" then! I'll get a supply of TCW-3 organised (donegaldan has some that's not doing anything soon )

BTW - I should say thanks to DHD for his kind offer to view said engine. The loaded pallet is currently in the hands of Codprawn's minions and will be arriving (fingers crossed) in donegaldan's warehouse in Durry.

The RIBnet Mafia, Whit's like 'em?

I have the 9.8. Its 50:1 ratio.

I know Yams etc. have 100:1 but I follow the manual for the Tohatsu.

Thanks - just back from the collection and trial firing (in a barrel) - nice motor, very clean - fired on the second pull (kinda fluffed the first one). Hope to have her out over the weekend if the wx permits.

Yeah, yeah, I'll get a couple of pics...

Two stroke engines

From my bike days I recall that most two-stroke engines ran on a premix of 50/1.
Sometimes people pushed it to 100/1 but remember this is the oil that stops the engine siezing....you can buy low smoke oils if the smoke bothers you.
