Tohatsu engine fault help

Hi all
I have a tohatsu tldi 90hp engine on my recently purchased rib, the rib had not been used for a couple of years so I drained and disposed of all the old fuel 60 litres as when I had run the engine through on the muffs to test it , it sounded as it was lacking power. I took the boat out today to test the engine with new fuel, but I am getting a strange fault, as I get up to the top of the throttle range about 30 knots, the engine cut back to I tick over and I get 3 warning lights flashing on the rev counter. If I keep the boat throttled back to 4 4.50 rev everything is fine , as soon as I push it up to just over 5 I get the fault, engine off and restart and everything is fine. Am I at the top of the engines power range ? Or have a got more serious problems. We don,t have any dealers or outboard techs on the island, so it's a case of DIY , thanks for any answers in advance.

If it's been laid up for a couple of years, then it will need a service regardless of use. I'm not familiar with the TLDI system, but from what I've read it has an air filter which requires changing. In addition, the drive belt to the compressor, fuel filter (high and low pressure filters), and impeller. Change the gear oil while you're at it.

It's also particular about battery power, so check battery is compatible 850-1000 CCA.

Do that first and see how you get on. Sparks are Champion - RC12ECC. Gael Force Marine in Inverness are Tohatsu distributor so you can order from them. Speak to Nik. Part codes here: Tohatsu parts
