tohatsu four stroke 18hp oil leak

So couple of years back bought this of ? Bay, seamed a genuine chap and no issues with his reason for sale. engine stood upright in my garage for a few months until I could get out with it, its stored upright but on transportation its on its side the correct side up. last year I noticed oil coming / pooling around the keg / lower fin. engine oil was up to max level. I took it to my local outboard shop who tested the gearbox for leaks ( pressure test) no leaks there he said, and it must be me transporting it on the wrong side, so iv been out over the past few days in the lakes and done about 8hrs run time, iv stored it up wright and noticed it pooling oil again. the oil level is down on the stick. it appears to be coming out of 2 drain holes near the keg under the gear box. it has sat in the back of my van for a few days being bounced about but Im still not sure it oil from being laid on its side. Am I right in removing the oil dip stick and resting it in the hole for a level check or should I push it back in for a level check ?
Any thoughts ?
