Tohatsu md50d2 coil upgrade

Hi all,
I've read these are a weak point on these engines and can be upgraded to the 70hp for more reliability. Does anyone have the part number for the 70hp ones or an engine model code so I can order these. Thanks

You can use Tohatsu 70hp ones, although the new model tohatsu 50 comes with them as standard.
I ran Nakuru ones, they were ok but eventually gave up the ghost. Best I ran were the Yamaha ones, think they came from a 60hp. Single bolt mount, various models used them easy to fit to the Tohatsu and bulletproof

Yamaha part number 697-85570-00-00 I believe, although thats 60-90hp looks like 20 all the way to 250hp are very similar if not the same

Tohatsu M60C or M70C use NGK coils. Tohatsu part number 3F3-06040-0 (IG3979). You're looking at roughly £60 each. The are well made. I carry a spare and have never had to use it.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. 👍
I'll look at getting some during the off season.

I've rebuilt the fuel pump with genuine parts so hopefully that will bolster up another weak point for next season.
