So had a look at the throttle linkage. Its hard to tell, but it looks like there is a little bit more movement available at the outboard end when the throttle lever is at wide open. On the other hand it could just be the flex in the linkage.....

It was hard to see how to adjust the cable. Does anyone know if it is at the engine or consul end? At the engine end, there is a thread into the first control arm, with a locking nut, but I cannot see how to turn it. Photo below.

Any thoughts?

IF the cable needs adjusting, pull the split pin/R pin, lift the cable end off the dowel, undo the locking nut and spin the cable end on the thread which ever way you require.

Are you quite sure its the cable adjustment? Your cable end already looks to be wound back a good way already.

Hi I have an Osprey Vipermax 5.85 with a Suzuki DF 140. I had a similar problem, max 5500 revs and 35knots at WOT with a 3x14x21 aluminium prop. I bought a Solas 3 x 14x19 stainless steel prop and have been hitting 6100-6200 revs at WOT and a max speed so far of 41knts.

Opening the throttle pushes the arm, so I would need to lengthen the rod. Might have a go just a bit.

It also occurred to me that the fuel in the tank was left by the previous owner, and is probably last seasons. Maybe it has lost its octanes. I might top it off with the expensive stuff.

I've had this problem with refurbed props. Everything seems fine...revs, vibration, cav etc., replaced it with exactly the same size of prop and the difference was 8kn.

I've got an older RC585 with a DF140 with a Merc Laser 2 stainless prop 20" pitch I get 41.6 knots @ 6200rpm (WOT) on calm water with no tide. 1 person onboard.

I think this is a good combination as I found the 21" pitch wouldnt reach WOT and wouldn't plane at all when the boat was fully loaded with divers and kit. 19" pitch will cover everything but is a bit revvy so this seems to be a happy compromise.
