Trim tilt failure

I have a yamaha 75hp 2 stroke which has always worked flawlessly but went down to the rib today having left her on a mooring and the engine won't tilt down. Bracket certainly not down. Makes usual noise but no movement. Any ideas? Thanks ++

Usual noise as in you can hear the pump working?

You could try holding the switch in until it has retracted the 2 lower pistons. At that point it may then pull the outboard down. Other than that, you can release via the bleed valvr

Yes I can hear the pump motor working but no movement. I will try the above thanks. Where about is the bleed valve to manually drop it? Will it mean all the hydraulic oil will leak out if I do it this way? Thanks!

RIBase
No, hydraulic oil won't leak. Bleed valve is usually large cross head screw.

I've used Mobil 220 ATF on my Tohatsu before. Check manual for compatible fluid. Pretty sure if you release valve you need to raise leg manually then close valve. Again you'll find instructions online in manual. If that doesn't work I'd be looking closer at pump. Could be worn carbon brushes if fluid level is fine.

Had similar issues in the past
(1) Check there is nothing mechanical locking it fully open
(2) Using online manual for your outboard, locate the Manual release (usually down along side of the trim tilt unit). Open and lift the outboard leg manually to fully upright/open position
(3) Check fluid level in your trim tilt unit
I would say to follow your outboards manual carefully and use grade of oil specified
The manual will describe how to fault find and fix this issue usually

If it's stuck in the up position, I'd get it onto the trailer before bu@@ering around with it.
The bleed screw is probably underwater and that's not going to be good if you loosen it.

Does it tilt up a few degrees? I would say somebody has spun the tilt lock/trailer stoppers but if not;
Get a large flat head screwdriver, Starboard side just at waterline, turn the manual release screw clockwise to release pressure. It will not leak oil out or water in, its designed to work underwater. Let it fall down then tighten the manual release screw (counterclockwise) and try it.
