URGENT...yamaha 703 remote start

Hi everyone,.

we have a yamaha outboard with what i think is a yamaha 703 remote controller. Son dropped the keys in the water, never to be seen again, and spare not anywhere to be found so hubby takes controller apart to see of he is capeable of replacing barrel.
well just as he did i found the spare key but now when we put back together we have power to the controller but it wont start..
we think the problem is something to do with a little brass 'disc', that is near the wiring but has no fixture to go into..we have tried it where it looks like it goes but no luck..
could do with a pic of where bits go... i know thats a big ask.

Thank you.
Just noticed the corner is broken off. We manually trooped the switchance whilst turning the key and engine started.
What we don't understand is when we put everything back together, what is it that tells the switch it's in neutral to make it allow us to start the engine..

If you look at the metal spring running from top to bottom

when the lever in is neutral the gears push against this spring (part in picture that looks like an house with a rounded roof pointing from right to left) which in turn pushes in a button on the microswitch, this "makes" the circuit and allows the engine to start.

when its not in neutral the microswitch button is out and the circuit is broken so it wont start.

If the microswitch is broken then it thinks its in gear

the switches are really cheap to replace.

I broke one on my Suzuki and picked up one locally from maplin.

heres the correct microswitch

V-15-1A5 BY OMI OMRON ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS, MICROSWITCH, PIN PLUNGER, SPDT 15A 250V | Farnell element14

If you have a Maplins local to you this will work fine

Low Cost Standard Microswitch | Maplin

Lois there is a micro switch that is operated by the gear lever for the start in neutral protection. It is activated by a lump on the side of a big "roundish" part at the centre of the mechanism. The brass disc I think fits against a spring underneath this big part and makes it click into neutral.

Thank you so much everyone. We now understand everything so mucheck better.
It seemseems to be the microswitch which hashould lost the corner of the plastic with the button on!!!

Is it OK to bypass the microswitch or do we really need to replace?

703

you can short out the wires that connect to the microswitch as an emergency measure but for the cost of the microswitch I would get it swapped
