Used Rnli 15hp

Afternoon all. A used 15hp mariner 2 stroke has just come up for sale bought as part of a job lot from RNLI. I have been to see the engine in person and it looks like a very nice well looked after engine. My concern, is that it has both its id tag and serial number plate missing from the leg, one missing i can understand, but both seems suspicious. It is being sold privately through a well respected marine engineer/reseller on the south coast and because of the missing tags is hard to determine it’s rough year of manufacture as being sold circa 2014. I am more concerned about resale value
from my end, any solid advice from anyone would be massively appreciated. Click image for larger version

Interesting.

I've heard of unplated engines being that way because 2 Strokes are only available to commercial buyers now.
You should also enquire about it's VAT Status.

Although when buying from a known used dealer I wouldn't worry too much.
A signed receipt should suffice to most you'd sell it on to.

More to the point, I can't think what use the RNLI would have for a 15HP.
Unless it was used on an inland Flood Rescue inflatable.

At that age and value, I doubt the plates are going to make any significant impact on its value tbh. You could ask the seller is engrave/stamp a number on for you and they can detail it on the receipt.

Standard engine on a Y Class. Modded by them of course for inversion etc.

Thanks max. That’s the piccie that clearly shows it’s an RNLI modded 15 engine with the same locking mechanism on the port side. I appreciate your response. Mind put to rest, and readies at the ready.

No worries, should be a good buy. There might still be traces of the stencilled number that would help with its history.

Your well respected engineer/ reseller would be better telling you it’s a 2006 engine.

Hi Davie. Is it really?? Possibly why it’s missing it’s id tags and being sold newer than it actually is. Can you offer any info into this model based on its engine cowl graphics??
