V-max 200HP

Hi all

I'm going to be given a price on a low hours Yamaha V-max 200hp.

I was going to change to a new 175 Optimax at the end of next season, but could afford this engine sooner.

Two questions

Should I wait until I can afford the Opti and keep pouring petrol down the barrels of my old Johnson for another season, or go for the V-Max now if its the right price?

Anybody any idea how much worse the fuel useage of the V-Max would be compared with the mighty Opti.

Hi

Its a HPDI I'm sure as the seller claims it has the economy of a four stroke.

I've not even considered one of these as I only researched the Opti and Rude e-tec.

Didn't even know they made both over the years, Thanks.

I am not really shure they made a 200VMAX carburated thats why i asked, they made a 225VMAX carburated. The 200HPDI VMAX is a great engine, i dont really have the consumption difference between the engines, but i had a 200HPDI that one consumed much less than a Opti 225 i had.
Not one single prob with the Yamma but i had some trouble with the Opti.
Maybe someone els have different experience.

Thanks Petrov

I'll go for it if the price is right, my 6.25M Ocean would Fly.

However, you've said something bad about an Opti, so all hell is going to let loose as the Opti fans on here strut their stuff

is it an 2.6 ltr hpdi ? stay away from the bigger ones

look if the engine is an 2.6 ltr
if not don`t buy it
lots of trouble with the bigger hpdi engines

the 2.6 ltr hpdi is very fuel efficient oil efficient and reliable
150 175 200 engines are made in hpdi 2.6 don`t know about the vmax if its an 2.6 or an 3.1 ltr engine
only problem with 2.6 hpdi is plug fouling if engine is not clean of carbon deposites
use yamaha ring free in the tank and you will love the hpdi

greetings menno

Thanks Guys

Its turned out that I can pick up a brand new 175HP Opti for less than this guy wants for his used 200 Vmax (It does only have 10 hours on it)

So looks like I have to wait for another year.

Nasher.

Nasher, have a chat with Lee Fairweather, he does get second hand Optis in from time to time. If he knows your after one you could be first in line. Bought mine from him

Pete

I had a chat with Lee a couple of weeks ago about the cost of a new engine, I could certainly get one cheaper elsewhere.

Its funny, there must be a surplus of 150 Opties about that dealers are making money on or something, because Lee like every other dealer I've tried desperatly wants to sell me one instead of a 175 even before some knew what boat its going on.
