Valuation needed - Tohatsu 9.8 - 2 stroke

I find myself with an embarrassingly large number of boat engines (4). When I say embarrassing, to be fair that was only because missus willk caught me smuggling the most recent one into the house yesterday

Anyway - if the "new" 3.5hp works out ok, then the Tohatsu 9.8 may be the one standing when the music stops. I'm keeping an eye this side of the pond for prices, but was wondering if Max..., Fenlander and the other "wee boaters " would have a handle on recent sales in the UK?

It is a short shaft 2006 (Aquamarine livery) with 12l tank. Overall condition is good, no damage other than a prop scuff (before my time ). I'll be servicing it shortly, so that will be done if I sell it.

Thanks for any info.

I may stand corrected but I believe the 9.8 is lighter than the 9.9 and 2006 model is the last of the legal 2 strokes resulting in a very desirable motor

Sounds like mint condition so I think the right buyer would pay Up to £1200 in sunny boating weather 😀

Hi willk,

As you know one of the holy grail engines - late model very clean ones in well looked after condition and nicely presented have been around the £1100 - £1250 mark for a few years now and I don't think they have really gone up or down from that.

Yes - it weighs 26kg (the 9.9 is a brute at 41kg?) and is one of the classy looking dark livery models...

I get about 18kts with it!

You need to have a word in Mrs. W's shell like. 4 OBs is a minimum requirement for any fella with sea going pretensions.

DHD is well into double figures and none of his get wet.

There was a brief period when I had two 90s, a 9.8 and 3.5
We went through a "rough patch"

Did he retire or was the Avon fiasco too much for him?

OK - so far we have two votes over the grand and a rather tartan flavoured suggestion from the Gurnard

Anyone else with any different opinions / recent sales / etc.?

If you still have it at the end of the season .. once I get over the shock of opening my wallet to get the F Rib..I might consider out of season down south prices ..but don’t hold me to that.

If you had only said the other day..I would have swapped my Mariner 3.3hp for it.. then your wifie wouldn’t be complaining about you spending more money on outboards. Keep her happy..and you get an easy life.. so you are happy ...and I would have been happy too.

And thats what boating is all about..isnt it ? Keeping everyone happy

It's an interesting concept Gurnard... Willk's 9.8 or a new 6hp 4-stroke. Similar money... which to choose?
