volvo D4 260 / 300 longterm report please

hi folks
im currently considering a repower with a volvo D4 either 260hp or 300hp
and i would love to hear anyones long term experiences with this engine.
how has the electronic control behaved itself ? I dont fancy limp home mode
from 50 NM offshore.
And also to hear peoples experiences with common rail technology,
water in fuel etc etc

I have the Volvo D6-370Hp for 2 years now without any problems whatsoever. Direct electronic controls are fine, if anything maybe too direct ?
The EVC systems works well although I have a big query on the accuracy of their fuelsender and the data derived from this sensor. That is about the only issue I have with it.
