Volvo Engine Troubles

A friend of mine has an 18' bow rider with a 4.3lt 6cyl volvo inboard, the trouble is, the motor has suffered badly from water ingestion and is basially kn@ckered.
A mechanic has removed the offending item and is more than happy to sell him a new one!
He is obviously looking for other options before handing over vast amounts of £££'s.
I thought I'd ask on here if anyone has any ideas of what to do.

Is it a rebuild, a short engine, new engine, or as I suggested, sink it out to sea and buy a RIB....

over to you....

Hard to say without seeing it - was it running when the water got it? Are the bores damaged etc etc. If it was mine I would prob rebuild it myself but if you don't know how it's not so easy.

I would give Coastal Rides a ring to see if they have a second hand one. Chances are that its the risers and manifolds that have corroded and leaked into the clyinders. Do a google on risers etc to see the full story or look on the dark side for a good explanation.
