Volvo Mystery?

I'm working on a boat that has a Volvo diesel and I don't know what the model is! It's oldish 10 years plus and it looks about the same size as a KAD 32 but no supercharger it does have a turbo. The ID plate has worn out (why dont they stamp them instead of print them)

It's a straight 4 Turbo Diesel about 12 years old any ideas what the model number might be.Unfortunately, It's, kinda difficult for me to do a picture as I guess that would help

Get a pic and i'll be able to help

At a guess it's an AD31. If so it'll be 150HP and similar to the KAD32 except, as you say, no supercharger and 150HP instead of 170HP on the KAD32

Might also be 130hp version of the same engine:

Stuart,

The volvo penta website has a database of all of their engines including discontinued ones. www.volvopenta.com - and go to the global site, not UK.

I think it is the 130, downloaded he manual last night. I whipped the engine out today to overhaul it but I'd rather replace it with a better engine. It powers a Volvo Penta PJX waterjet. That's another mystery!

KAD32 would be an ideal replacement, not much heaver at a guess and the same size physicially. KAD43 would be nice if you have the space for the extra 2 cylinders in the engine bay

Are the DP290 out-drives a common ratio gearbox? Or are there different ratios? I'm guessing it's all the one ration since any DP290 drives I see for sale don't mention gear ratios?

Nope. The single prop comes as a 1.61:1, 1.89:1 and 2.15:1, and the duo prop in 1.95:1 and 2.30:1

Interesting to know, are there any stamps on the drive to identify which ratio mine is? Don't remember seeing anything

Should be an aluminium plate riveted to the drive with its serial number and ratio.
