What does this water pipe do?

Hi all, I'm relatively new to all this after buying a 4.8m ribcraft off a ribnet member. It had a 75hp 2stroke Yamaha and I notice today a small pipe which come from inside the engine casing low down near the engine water inlets and come up to the transom. Its not attached to anything at the moment and when the engine revs water comes out of it. Does anyone know it's function and where it should be attached to? Many thanks! Angus

It's the pitot tube for a speedometer, ignore it.
Welcome to Ribnet btw.

Water shouldn't come out when the engine revs - only when underway (it's forward speed that created the water pressure.) If water volume ejected is tied to the engine rpm, it's not the pitot tube (or is, but isn't connected right.)

Thanks. Hmm I will check when I'm next out but it might be when I'm underway. All I noticed was when moored and engine in idle then no water jet but when using engine there was. So you are likely right it was speed not the revs. Will check next time out. Cheers

If its causing an issue you can just fold it over and cable tie it.

accurate to the nearest 200mph. It is just a guide to your speed any kinks dirt etc in the pipe to the speedo head will give a false reading.

If you don't have a speedometer, get a small plastic cylinder and plug the tube, then tie it up. No more water spraying anywhere.

Or just pull it off the elbow at the bottom of the leg & bin it.
