What is this on my etec 175?

Last time I had the boat in the water I managed to run over a pot marker that had a load of floating line attached.

Luckily it was only round the lower leg, and not the prop, you can see the paint rubbed off.
When I got the boat out of the water, I found this black tube, with the attachment into the lower leg has broken off.

Any idea what it is? I am rather hoping it is not a gearbox vent, mas that would almost certainly mean I now have water in the gearbox! Not really sure what else it may be?

Its probably a cooling hose, have a look at this link and try and identify it from your engine model. From pictures ive seen it may connect round the back.

Thanks for the advice guys,

Looking at the model, this years, it seems to be the
"Nipple, pitot tube"

Which will be the water speed pickup, however didn't realize it was fitted to mine, so I guess just trying to jam it back in, or getting a new nipple will be all that is needed?

At least it won't have put water in the gearbox!

It's the pitot tube pickup as already mentioned. It goes up to the cable grommet where the cables leave the engine. It will be blanked off at that point unless you have a pitot speedo (doubtful) Ignore it, pull it out or cut it off & bin it.

BTW! Good quality choice in motor!

If it had been any other with a pot marker round the leg it would of been a whole lot worse!
