Just added a new boat to the fleet but it has a 250 2-stoke evenrude on the back.

My question is what oil to put in it i know about the oil evenrude sell the XD100 but at almost £50 for 5lt it is a bit on the expensive side is there anything else ? i am sure there must be a non marine alternitive, if not what can go into it.

Thank you in advance.

Rock Oil - as long as it's a TCW3 spec it will be ok. They do a nice semi synthetic called MP3 or something - I bought loads of it - far cheaper than branded stuff and they will deal direct or used to. The oil is identical to the Mercury Quicksilver stuff but far less money.

Is the engine an E-tec?

If it was I would run the XD100 as it wont use a lot if is set to run on the XD100 setting.

If its an older Evinrude then there is XD50 or XD30. If it is a ficht or DI I would run XD50 if its an older Carb engine you should be fine with XD30.

I have been informed if you use WC3 oil there may be a problem with the oil injection nozells gumming up. I use the XD 100 in mine and am very happy with it. But my engine is only 60 hp so it does not use a lot of the stuff anyhow

Etec oil

To day I discussed with a friend who is racing for Evinrude, and I called him about oil.

He said :
Etec could use XD100 or XD50 (which is a TCW3), but the ECU must be set for the oil you are using.
XD100 volume setting is half that of XD50, so even if its cost is x2, the final result is equal.
But the bonus with XD100 is that in case of oil pump problem, the XD100 allows to run 6 hours "no oil" without motor damage.

This cancels any discussion !

No oil??? Sounds great - that means that if you only use the motor for 5 hrs each trip you never need to buy oil.............

2 stroe oil

Total is making a special 100% synthetic oil for outboards, sold to be usable on Optimax, Etec and Tohatsu TLDI, its name is :
Total Neptuna 2T racing outboard oil.

Roughly, cost is half that of "Mercury, Etec and Toh. marine synthetic" oils, I bought it 30€ incl.vat in France - bought 3 bottles containing 5litres each
