What size is this engine?
Based on the two attached photos, can anyone tell me roughly how many horses this engine is?

Could be a twin; I know nothing more than what I can see in the photos.
I was thinking more like 40.....or am I being a bit optimistic

Think it is a 40 - looks the same this rather overpriced one here: http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F98460/
Can anyone confirm my theory?

Its a twin, my bet is a 40HP, it must be a 30/40/50 because the 25hp and smaller aren't that shape. My bet is its a 30/40HP, get the serial number and do a google, there is a way of working out its year from that and obviously the power output.
All in another language but you can work it out from this, HK is horsepower...

Its a 40 or more likely a 50 or 55 and the cowl is on the wrong way round....
70's or early 80's- later ones would have the VRO style graphics.
I guess the guy selling it is a bit slow?
£150 quid tops if you're thinking of buying it looking at the state of it under the cowl. Awful engines.

2-cyl. Depense on year on the engine. But 50,55,60 and later 40 if i remember right. I had first 3-cyl evinrude 60 (-84?) with 737cc and much higher. And this is older i think. My guess is 55 hk, and in sweden this engine has bad memorys from many people. It´s not the best 55 evinrude built.

Well you've stimulated a decent debate on something you're not really interested in
I think Nos got it right - the hood's on back to front.
Don't go buying it now, will you?

From memory the 55s used to snap conrods on a regular basis. Foxhangers Marine (now defunct) used to have a pile of dead 55's outside that he gave away to people.
I'm fairly certain it's not a 40-the twins are all hard to distinguish from 40-60hp but 40s of this shape are actually quite rare whereas the 50/55 were a common sight. It's the engine the 55hp yamaha twin was based on but not as good
Def not a 30-this is a 30...

25 looks like Nos4r2´s pic. You can find them from 20,25,30 and 35 depense on year. 521 cc 2-cyl.
