Sounds like it could be the vapour separator unit. Not too sure what it does but possibly similar to a catalytic convertor on a car. In any case - OUCH

Surely you haven't been nicked already Pete.

We don't start patrols until tomorrow.

jlanng, did your mechanic say why you needed this evaporator? - was it because it's broken, service or something else?
also, how old is your engine? - seeing something like this needing replacing on an identical engine to mine is somewhat concerning for the old visa card considering the DF140 hasn't been out that long really.

Thanks,

-Alex

Rogue wave - you're a genius! Ordered the part, and a natty engine cover - all for about half the price I was quoted

The part is actually a vapour seperator, which removes any air from the fuel line. On the Suzukis, the fuel pump sits inside the vapour seperator.

Basically my unit was full of silt and grit because the previous owner obviously ran it without a filter at some point (git!). Rather than try to clean it all out and possibly miss some, it was decided to replace the whole unit. The good news was that none of this crap made it as far as the fuel rail and injectors.

In reply to the poster above, I don't think you should worry about this part failing on your own engine so long as you run it through a filter.

Cheers

Oh and it also acts as a buffer for returned fuel from the injectors - so you don't need to plumb in a fuel return line like you get on cars. I would imagine this fuel is water cooled

thanks for that info - I have a glass fuel filter on the transom which seems to be doing the job..... with any luck I won't be replacing the evaporator anytime soon.
