What's my Tohatsu 18hp worth?
HI,
I have a 2003 TOHATSU 18hp engine standard shaft and wondered what anyone thinks it might be worth?
It has only had possibly 50/60 hours use and always started pretty much first time but hasn't been run this year so could probably do with a service.
It isn't easy to find a reference price so thanking you in advance for any guidance anyone can give.
Thanks
Ian

Call me Mr Grumpy but........it might be an idea to make a few contributing posts to the forum other than an advertising/sales post as your very first post and the second a follow up!
(Edit; + the third, nice one!)

Sorry for annoying you Max.
Had it been a keen hobby of mine I may well have participated in the forum more but I didn't really take to it thus the reason for selling.
Apologies, I'll get my coat!

No worries - I'm just grumpy today...
A shame you did not get on with it - that's pretty much the ultimate SIB outfit and one that should sell easily but split it for the best price. If you have been nearer I may well have been a buyer from you...

Mr Grumpy we don't have any rules on here about how long someone needs to be a member before posting an advert - never mind for one of the many 'whats it worth' type threads. There's plenty of folk with dozens of posts on here who have never contributed anything of value!

ianshotton - welcome to the forum.
I can't give you a specific price for your engine. Like everything it depends on the market, the condition, even the time of year, and where you are in the country. What I can tell you is that particular engine is highly sought after as it is well respected and has very good power output for its weight.
My gut feel is it might be worth more than Mextli suggests.

No problem Max, it is a bit cheeky, feels like I butted in on a private conversation without introducing myself or getting to know anyone!
Thanks also Mextli and Poly for your thoughts.
It seems like a smallish market so very difficult to get a feel for what is the right sort of price to get it sold. Also looks like I'd be better off living on the South Coast than up North!
Anyway appreciate the feedback all and happy ribbing !
Cheers

I'd say its worth 50 quid... how do you want payment!
Seriously though, I would think its probably worth around the £1,000 mark, depending on the condition of it.

Bloody hell didnt think they were fetching that much? Would expect to pay that sort of dosh for a very decent 15hp Yammy 2 stroke but thought the Tohatsus were a fair bit cheaper?
They were only about £1600 new werent they?

Supply and demand - the 2 stroke Tohatsu 9.8, 15, 18 and Yam 15 are the most desirable little engines out there.

I bought a 9.8 Tohatsu a few weeks back to use on my Honwave when im on my own.
Havent used it yet due to the crap weather but seems a nice little motor. Unbelievably light, think they are only about 25kg arent they?
