Where can I buy the best deal on a new 150 HP (or thereabouts) outboard?

I'm considering a new boat and all the engines supplied with boats are, I suspect at present, grossly overpriced. I'm not fussed about 2 or 4 stroke as it will have very little use. Are there any dealers out there who stock heavily discounted engines (perhaps a 2003 model, demo-engine etc).

Engine deals

Most dealers have to commit to buying in winter stock about October time. These will be 2004 models which may sit around until after Christmas.
I reckon that a good time would be to start haggling in December - I was offered some very good deals on 150hp Optimaxes last year but could not find a boat to put it on!

Only had it three weeks, 12 hours running, no probs so far and don't expect any. Had the Honda 130 for three and a half years, no probs at all. In the UK Honda give a 5 year warranty, but think in the rest of Europe it is only 2 years, check it out.

Fuel is averaged out at aprox 8/9 litres an hour over all but we do have to cover 3 miles to thr entrance to Portsmouth harbour at 10 knots. At 4000 revs, 27 knots it uses 20/22 litres an hour and flat out that goes up to 35 litres an hour.

Service cost aprox £160.00 every 100 hours or every year.

I have been very pleased with Honda, put it on your short list.

Best of ribbing........................Richard
