Which 6hp aux outboard

I need to buy a long shaft aux outboard and looking online I can get a Yamaha from BHG marine down South posted or buy local mercury engine for roughly same money. Does anyone have any recommendation for one over the other and are BHG a kosher outfit to deal with?
Cheers

I can confirm BHG are real, bought a HonWave off them a couple of years ago over the phone. Boat arrived by courier next day.

Can also confirm that BHG Marine at Lymington is a reputable dealer.

I can't go lower than a 6 hp unfortunately which is not ideal but the weight is an issue.
Cheers anyway

I bought a 6hp tohatsu. It was a good bit cheaper than the others. Never had to use it in anger yet, which is nice!Click image for larger version

Well it was a bit of a compromise, small enough to put on the tender and big enough to push the boat.

I don't expect to do 20miles at 6 knots with an auxiliary, I just want it for steering the boat round obstacles or to head for the beach!

Are you fussed about 2 vs 4 stroke?

Memory says your main is a "neat petrol" burner, so I'm guessing a premix isn't an option?

I ask because there is a group of premix Johnsorudes might tick boxes - 5 becomes 8 with the right carb..... but they are of a premix vintage....

Hi Ralph
I bought a Yamaha which is very quiet and only 27kg so not too bad. Found it stops me turning hard to starboard when I was in the wee harbour just to the north of Kirkcaldy. Collided with every boat moored trying to get back out. Nightmare. Now plan to mount it onto a rail between my seats and put it over the back when required as it is fine when the main engine is up. I'm making a cover so that at least I won't have to wash the salt off it. Not ideal but it's there as a last resort if the main dies.
