Who makes what ?, who brands what ?.. what engine do we have, and from who... ?

Over the years, it became apparant that many engines are badged versions of other makes with subtle modes here n there.
Has anyone got definitve lists of who makes what, for whom, and as what...

It seems logical that the Mariner Mercury 2.2 3.5 units are Tohatsu, I am told that many mercury mariner units in the mid range are also tohatsu.

What else do you know of ?

Please help to fill in the void of both information and specualtion and dissinformation

Ruds

Mariner can be Mercury, Yamaha or Tohatsu
Mercury can be Tohatsu or Yamaha
Johnson can be Suzuki or Evinrude
Selva can be Yamaha
I believe Honda stand alone.

Dependig on the type of throttle used, cable or pinon can be Tohatsu or Yamaha, from inquired information, Tohatsu makes current Mariner/Mercury/Nissan 2.5 to 50 HP in 2 strokes versions and 2.5 to 30 HP in 4 strokes versions. Brunswick is a investor in Tohatsu new plant at Komegane/Japan location. Also in this plant Toh produces bigger core parts for their larger engines. I'm not stating all are rebadged Tohatsus, Yam could still provide some rebagded Merc/Mar for other international country markets.

Johnson/Evinrude could be Jonsson/Evinrude or Suzuki

mariner mercury johnson 3.5 units were not all Tohatsu they used the tohatsu powerhead but all seemed to have their own slightly different leg and cowlings etc . the Tohatsu was more compact and a bit lighter . I found that out because i was after buying one and a local dealer happened to have one of each in stock.

nissan is also tohatsu , and I think also yamaha .

Ian, what year was that, were they current produced 2 strokes engines, as having no 4 strokes down here wouldn't know an answer for same issue. Nissan's are rebadged Tohatsu's, top of the line is 115 HP TLDI as Tohatsu. Cosmetic same, with a slight higher price difference, that's all, interior & parts the same. Check:

There are some Yam 25, 2 strokes available if any interested, buy now or repent for ever.

Happy Boating
