Not really there have been a couple of pictures of Broken saddles on race boats regurgitated by numptys that have never actually owned an Etec and seem to have some sort of chip about them however the engines don't have a rep for broken brackets. If they were that bad why would P1 race boats have chosen them for all their boats and now the new G2 for the new P1 ribs.

As you say Google any outboard hard enough and you will find horror stories. Look at the Yamaha 350 flywheel issue that leads to the crank snapping or Yamaha outboard corrosion issues that affected a number of the four stroke range.

Perhaps the title of this thread should be "who would buy an outboard" much more appropriate... !

And if you think they are bad, don't search for inboards or drive legs!

Anyone for a mast and sails?

So come on Mollers. with all their cracking incriminating evidence, you still like da etec? With all their unreliability issues?
Maybe etec bashin should be an official annual event or even part of the Olympics!!

If you look on the ybw motorboat forum you will find people with problems with their volvo diesel engines almost daily does this mean there rubbish engines?
I think not!
With every make or type of engine your going to have the odd fail
I doubt etecs are any worse than others
Let's start a list of busted yamahas
I have an 8hp with a rotten block so that's all 8hp yamaha engines are junk! Yeh?

Oh No.... My 'Rude--er- Johnson- err whatever has passed it's 42nd birthday... I better checjk those clamps!

Always starts first or second pull, and based on the state it was in when I got it in 1997 had obviously met the bottom more than a couple of times.

And guess what? - Still on it's original Clamps!

Uh- oh..... I have a leak from between my toobs & my hull...... It's atrocious. How can anyone buy a Humber, I mean c'mon.... 32 years, 4 owners, (including use as an offshore FRV and a sailing club rescue boat) and the tubes are starting to come off?

And then I go and hang one of thiose totally unrealiable "they all overheat & seize" Clamshells on the transom.......

I won't bore you with the details of my research but the first generation did suffer from that (a bit). If nothing else it just shows what manufacturers have to put up with..... the engine I rebuilt is different to the one I dismantled. It now has all the modifications put in place pretty quickly after the failues became "public". (and no, mine didn't break due to overheating or seizure..... the spark advance stop let go, which was partly my stoopidity not to check the locknut.... )

So, in summary the banter is great, but there is a version of this thread in the bilges for that!

Mr Hall ??? anyone out there?. isn't it amazing the etec lovers all wanting catastrophic failure evidence and when it presents itself they all disappear.

the P1 superstock is on local to me at the weekend so i had a nosey about the boat that was getting ready.....

i have no idea why the bits are off it before anyone starts but looks fairly routine for a race boat me thinks.

i will ask the pitt guys at weekend as i get access as a berth holder

The P1 boats are all running 250HO's and have been for several years. Powertech Marine fit them with very stiff mounts that they mould in house.

The 250 HO is no longer in production so I suspect at the end of this year they will be changing.
