Will a 60Hp 2 stroke work with a 5.3 mtr Avon Sea Rider

Hello everyone...I am a new member and have an Avon Sea Rider which I am looking at replacing the old engine with a 60hp 2 stroke Mariner...my question is will this work OK or will the 60hp struggle?.

I have a 75Hp Mercury 2 stroke on there at the moment that has a lot of running issues.
I have the possibility of swopping it out for a 60hp and just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of this rib and engine combination

RIBase
I think it'll depend on use - a 60 hp for a single person with minimal kit should be ok.

The same set up with 4 adults, dive kit or a picnic to feed the troops may not return the highest performance, but there are plenty of coach boats, safety boats and family boats with the same set up.

As you say, some one with the same size may be able to give some performance indicators.

a 60 on a 5.3m rib is not enough. I have a 60hp on a 4.5 m rib and that is just about right. a 5.3 is a much bigger boat

Ok thanks for that..I guess like Andy said it depends what it's being used for..it should still get up on the plane and manage 15-20knots though?.

It should plane no problem, it wont set the world on fire but I'd guess mid 20k's. I've seen a sea scouts one with a 25 on, depends what your doing with it as to wether its too small or not
