Wrong fuel mixture

Someone borrowed my 3.5hp 4 stroke mariner outboard and put fuel mixed for a 2 stroke engine in it. Is it just a case of draining the fuel out of the tank and cleaning the spark plugs or do I need to do other stuff too? I don't want to spend ages trying to sort it out only to get it wrong so any advice would be appreciated.

carbed or fuel injection? if it's carbed then undo the drainage screw and flush fresh petrol through. Not sure if a 4 stoke would run with 2 stroke but if it has been running might be worth using some seafoam to clean it all out.

I don't think they've fuel injected 3.5hp yet
Just put fresh neat petrol in it and don't worry. It may smoke for a bit but no harm will have been done.

What size do they start using fuel injection? I guess there's no emission problems on a 3.5hp

Okay dokay, brilliant I'll just drain it and clean the plugs. Any idea how tight I should do them up when I put them back?

Just drain the fuel tank, fill it with fresh fuel, and start it up. It will probably run fine and in this case l would say there's no need to touch the spark plug.

It'll be just like an over oiled 2- stroke... Just give it a couple of mins at full chat and your plugs will clean themselves.

Merc do a 25hp EFI, I think that's the smallest out there. You may have hit upon a line line though at 3.5hp EFI, I may need to adapt it to SFI though at that small a size, Syringe Fuel Injected. Do you think it'll catch on ?

You can use up the 2 stroke mix in any old yard equipment or even the outboard itself if you dilute the oil down a bit. 1:50 will smoke and foul the plugs but 1:200 will hardly be noticed. How big is the tank?

Plug torque is in your manual or you can make an educated guess with this table
Spark Plug Installation Instructions

It will be fine just add some extra petrol and give it some rpm. My honda 4 stroke mower loves old 2 stroke. All 4 strokes can burn oil and the 2 smoke oil may actually do some good and give it a good clean out.
Other old mix goes in the Subaru with extra petrol added.

Interestingly, Suzuki now do a 15hp fuel injected outboard that does not need a battery.
