For anyone who remembers, the old yammies were completely reliable and bombproof. I don't like to see them dying off. I've for a 3 cyl 50 destined for the Valiant, which will leave me with two 55s and a load of spare parts. The future idea is a twin engine rib, either a 6m Searider or if a moment of madness takes over, an ex Navy 5.4 set up for twins. The insurance may rule that out though, but how much fun would that be!!
I bought that one in the picture off fleabay, it looked as if it could use some TLC.

Oh, also during. I'm going to polish it up soon, gaskets are on order, I have a powerhead with less than 50 hours on it. The saddle was badly corroded but I had another from a 60 Mariner only ever used in fresh water.

Excellent. What are you doing with the cowl - is it damaged or marked? You can buy replacement decals from Yamaha, but they're not cheap.

I got some of the 1:100 decals made by a local supplier. As far as I know the original decals are no longer available, unless you know differently. The old Skool cowl only needs a paint. I have some newer ones too, but since everything is stock, I may just keep it original. I have some more awaiting the same treatment. The one without gearbox was only £125.00 but I got it running well.

Yamaha 55 porn?
The 55 twins are great engines.
This was mine from a few years ago that I renovated. Couldn't justify paying for the proper Yamaha decals, the ones used were given to me by a friend.

There was a lot of resistance when yamaha launched the 3 cylinder models in 1984. The 55 - 115 were bulletproof. Best engines around at the time and I still prefer these pushing a RIB along.

Only real down side was the 80000dB they sang at!
Twins would sound awesome (for the 10 mins your hearing would stay intact!)

No, not at all. Have used, Twin 55s, 75s, 85's and V6 200s, all Yamaha's. It's not noise, it's music certainly not easy listening, but certainly heavy metal. Bliss!!
The 200 's were superb in the big seas, plenty of power and the most glorious howl when the Rib decided to turn part aircraft!!

Sorry to jump onto your thread but do you know what the recommended rpm range at wot should be on a 55B?
After what feels like a mountain of little jobs I'll be putting my sr4 back down for the season with some extra horses and a working tacho (a first for me!) and although I am pretty sure I am going to be under propped, nice to have an idea of where to go next...
Thanks, Simon

My prop book says 4500-5500
Personally I think 4500 is a little low.
I'd be happier with 5000-5500
