Yam Year Please

Can someone give me a definitive answer as to the MY of this OB please?

Online searches are giving me answers ranging from '86 to 2000.

What about the picture of the cowl?

Build year letter J refers to 1986 from what I can see, but it could be a grey import? I wrote to Yamaha and they were very helpful and confirmed.

Only reason I mention the cowl, is I had a 1986 Yamaha 25hp, and it was dark navy blue. I also had a 1995 Yamaha 40' and by this point decals had changed and moved to metallic blue/grey.

Good luck with the search. The model 3-cylinder 50G is a great outboard.

I'm fairly sure the letter J on its own (bottom right) is the ID of the factory where it was made rather than the year.

It looks newer than '86. It's a 4 cyl injected. I'll post a pic of cowl/colour scheme.

Your quite correct, the selling dealer never had broadband!
