Yamaha 150 4Stroke Flashing Engine Light

Hi All,
Hopefully someone on here will be able to shed some light or know a good place I can download a manual for the Yamaha Tacho Smart Gauge. Whilst out today I noticed the engine symbol on the tacho started flashing; 2 flashes followed by 8 flashes. The engine was running perfectly and full power available, I stoped to check there was no blockage on the water intakes which were clear and had a good strong tell tail. I was only a couple of minuets from the beach we were heading to so carried on, after a few hours o the beach, when I restarted the engine there was no warning. At no time did any alarms sound, talking of which, is there a good way to check the audible alarm? On previous diesels I've had the alarm sounds when you first turn the ignition o so you know it's working. Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers...

The ECU has registered a fault with the gear position switch- it a small microswitch located on the gear shift mechanism that tells the engine that it is neutral. It is operated by a small leaf spring which can sometimes break or bend so that it doesn't quite operate the switch properly.

Thanks Phantom 19, could be a faulty switch as wasn't on on my return trip.
