Yamaha 200 2stroke?

Adding to this thread, I may be looking at the same engine on fleabay. I am in the process of buying my first RIB, and just starting to learn about ownership rather than rent and forget.

I had a similar decision to make when getting an old mile muncher car which I was happy leaving at train stations and airports as I work overseas a fair amount. I looked at a 10year old 520d, but sitting next to it was the same age 545i. The 520 was 8900, the 545 was 4500. 520 would get about 44mpg, 545 was about 22.

545 was cheaper to service than the equivalent diesel.

It worked out over 3 years I would have to do about 19k miles per year before the 545 became more expensive to run and therefore justify the purchase price difference of the 520.

I had it 5 years in the end as it was a lot of fun! If I had kept to the original plan of 3 years, it would have worked out. the extra 2 years of higher fuel and a larger rear tyre budget than expected meant it wasn’t in the end.

Can I draw a similar comparison here, or are there additional maintenance considerations for an older engine I need to consider too, like the tyres.

Agree. I had one as a company car from 2003-2007. If I trundled up and down the motorway no more than 75, it would average 44 on the onboard computer. Lots of short journeys it would be 39-41 ish.
