Yamaha 2hp 2B water issues

Noticed last year that our rarely used Yamaha 2b 2HP was struggling to pump water and that anything that did come out of it was red hot.

So, I purchased an impellor for it and dismantled the lower leg to gain access only to find that the impellor was in perfect condition. I also made sure that the pipe that goes up the leg was seated properly on fitment.

Once she was all put back together I tested it again only to find scalding hot water dripping out of the bottom of the cowling ? ? ? wtf

After a quick inspection I think its coming from where the engine meets the drive leg. surely if it had a gasket issue it wouldnt run properly. This engine literally starts first time, anytime no matter how long its been sitting!

Have a look at this pic of my rarely used Mariner 4hp. Like yours the impellor was fine but despite flushing after every use the waterways were fully of salty jelly.
