Yamaha 3.5 HP

Hello,

Does anyone know when Yamaha stopped produce 3.5HP engines?
Also, could you please tell me something more about this engine?

Thank you,
zubol

PS. Maybe you would be able to tell me if it is short / long shaft and 2 / 4 stroke

It's a long shaft 2 stroke Yamaha Malta.

Value depends on what condition it's in and how old, but I couldn't date it from the pic as I can't remember when they stopped making them.

Hmm... Might be 3 years old-it won't be newer unless it's an import, but you'd need to see reciepts or a serial number to prove it.

£300 is a fair price if it is, if that's the engine you want.

I have a yam malta, which I think is 3,5hp and I think its about 5/6 yrs old and paid a mate £175 for it, which I rated as a bril. I had been looking for a while and think £300 is Ok.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Yam have made any 3.5HP 2 strokes for quite sometime (about 2003?). Even then £300 doesn't seem a silly price if all is in order. There should be a plate on it with the "model number" etc. This has a magic letter which tells you the year of build... (google "yamaha outboard letter code year" should get you the "key").
