Yamaha 3HP Gearbox breather?

Hi I don't know if anybody could advise me regarding this I've acquired a Yamaha Malta outboard that's running but needing work, After changing the Impellor I had the engine horizontal whilst re-fitting the lower unit/setting the gear rod and noticed that where some water had collected in the recess for the upper fill level bolt/screw when I rotated the prop it seemed to bubble slightly? I assumed from this water ingress in the gearbox oil which there was when I emptied it although the seals on the upper/lower bolts both seem intact?? On inspection I think the prop seal has probably failed and will replace all of them. Anyway this got me thinking... and the Numpty question of the night is should the lower unit have a breather? thanks in advance AL
