Yamaha 55 worth repairing?

I was having a fantastic day on the Menai, as you can imagine from the conditions (see photo), when things went more than a little wrong with my motor!

As you can see from the pictures a small piece of metal broke of from somewhere and entered the top cylinder where it spent a while chewing the sh*t out of the piston, cylinder head and scoring the cylinder before stoping completely (fortunatly only 6 feet from a mooring bouy).

Has anyone got any idea of the cost of a rebore, piston kits, etc and what does it take to bend a conrod on one of these engines?

I´m basically trying to assess wether its worth rebuilding or just break it up and ebay the rest and then put the money towards a new engine. The cost of labour isnt an issue because I´ll rebuild it my self, but its over 10 years since I did this kind of thing and I´m out of touch with prices.

thanks for any advice

Bet you don't get much change out of a grand to repair it. However they are the same engine as the Mariner 50/55/60 I think, so scrap it and sell the bits towards a more modern engine. Gearbox is probably worth £250 to someone who has just run aground and I bet they would be very grateful.

Would you ever trust it again btw ?

I just found the piston kits on line for £69 each and a used cylinder head and con-rods (in-case mine have bent from the impacts) for about £40, so thats £180.

Does anyone know where I can get crank shaft bearings and little/big end bearings?
