yamaha 703 control box help needed

Ok gents.

I have just spent 2 hours on the boat getting hit by all the wash from the boats that are not sticking to the 5 kt speed limit and I am getting very frustrated.

I couldn't get the boat started and guessed (rightly) that the prob was electrics in the control box. Unfortunately when I got it all back together the fast idle won't move and the engine is over reving. I tried taking ait all apart repeatedly and could get everything to work properly when in pieces but not once I get it all together again.

Unfortunately I don't have a diagram but I am guessing the problem is that I am not getting the little knob (real technical term) inside the box which is attached to the fast idle to locate properly into the groove on the large metal plate just inside.

All advice greatly appreciated.

Ian

It should be fairly easy

Look at the fast idle actuating 'drum'-ie the bit the fast idle lever screws onto.

The pin from the drum will be locating into one of 2 slots/grooves on a plate in the linkage mechanism inside the control box.

Rearrange the linkage mechanism so the pin on the fast idle drum fits into the other slot.

it's easier to do it with the cables disconnected, but make sure the circlips don't ping overboard!

Thanks Nos. I'll try getting it into the lower slot in the plate then. Yeeha more grease.

I forgot to mention that I also cannot engage reverse as well as fast idle not engaging.

Yeah, you've definitely got it in the wrong slot then, and that throttle linkage is the wrong way round inside.

I've done exactly the same. It took me ages because the bloody Seloc manual shows the remotes put together wrongly!
Hang on a few mins and I'll try and find a pic of the WRONG way to do it from the manual. It'll probably look like yours is.
