Yamaha 703 control manual
I have just bought a 2nd hand Yamaha 20hp 4 stroke with electric tilt.
I am struggling to find online or on Yamaha website, a manual for the 703 controls. Is there such a thing? Are there differing models/ages?
I need to swap sides, is this as simple as unbolting the handle and moving to other side?
Only got one key, can I buy a spare somewhere?
Also, can anyone provide any advice on additional gauges that can be added for recording running hours / tachometer etc. (any links appreciated).

Well any tach will work, they usually have 3 terminals, the 703 control box should have that.
Changing handle is a simple affair of unbolting it on one side and screwing it back on on the other one. Take care with wiring should you have PTT.
I'm not sure where you can get new keys, tried a local key cutter?

703 controls manual?
I believe this was converted from a tiller to remote control, and still has the empty control tube & gland (tried to attach pic but it wanted a weblink!), can i remove and add a bung (or similar)?

Cheers, Davie - sorted.

Also, the throttle and gear cables aren't attached to the cams, how do i secure them to the spigot, is it a split or r clip with/without washer?

OK, need to replace the following, any help to provide Yamnaha part nos. or official name, or places to purchase gratefully received.
A plug gland, it had been squashed by previous owner, see pic here.
Note water was exiting this during running engine, what is its use?
And need new control cable plug/socket, as missing the screw cap connector, see pic here.

It looks like it is for flushing the engine (not running) via a hose adaptor. It should be blanked off when running. Have a look at hoselock/tap/hose fittings - The similar feature is on the new Mercury 4 strokes but the hose pushes back into the cowling and the blanking plug locks in. It appears as though yours (may be have been an adaptation by the former owner) just runs along side and should be clipped somewhere when not in use. If like mercury, the threads are slightly different to the UK hose but should fit.
Someone who knows about Yamaha's will no doubt be able to give proper advice/info

Is the plug and socket ok? I will have a locking ring but you will need to strip the electrics out the control box to get it onto the wire though. Have a look at the old style omc Red plug connection, they used a spring clip to keep plug and socket together and I have seen one used for this job but needs a little bending into the correct shape. Take the flush kit off your engine and use muffs.

Thanks guys...
1. Flushing end - bought new fitting at great expense £10, as don't know how to remove or decommission it. Have muffs.
2. Electrics plug - locking ring is not present that's the issue, will investigate further. Likely to just secure and seal it for this season with self amalgamating tape.
