Yamaha 70hp prop shaft removal ?

Engine : Yamaha 70B 1988

I'm currently disassembling the lower assembly on a 70hp yamaha. I had to cut off the cap nut and fabricate a pullers to remove the carrier housing however the prop shaft stayed behind with the bearing. I have removed the shift shaft in the neutral position.

My question is how do I remove the prop shaft ? It has a lot of play in it just unsure what to do next as I don't want to damage it by pulling it as something is preventing it from coming out.

Thanks in advance

It’s the thick thrust washer between the bearing you can see and the reverse gear. Attach a slide hammer onto the prop nut thread.

Thanks Davie, came out no problem. Thought it was supposed to come out as one with the carrier so didn't want to go forcing it until I got a second opinion !

RIBase
Hopefully not off topic - this step by step video is a breakdown of a Yamaha F225 lower unit.

Useful insight into the tools required.

The rebuild, especially the shims left me scratching my head!

Interesting stuff.
