Yamaha 90hp trim/tilt solinoid needed

i have a 90hp 1996 2stroke, my trim solinoid has decided to fail, 1st it only went up now nothing.. i have been quoted £130 for a new unit.

Can any one help, does anyone have a working second hand unit or can you supply a new one cheaper?

Ian, give Dean a ring in Drivers Wharf 07749 633797, last time I spoke to him about my Yamaha he said he had quite a few that would fit.

Ian,

Have you tested all the bits around it? ? Is the switch working OK? Do you have a separate T&T switch on the engine and does that work?

Is it a single solenoid on yours or one for up and one for down? Is power getting to it / them?

Certainly worth re-checking all the connections and making sure you have continuity when the switch is operated.

You can easily test the solenoid action by just getting power directly to the switch terminals.

Sorry if you've tried all these things already and you're sure that's the problem. If you want a cheap fix you could use a couple of high ampage (140/180A) automotive relays - around £12-15 each.

Thanks Mikecc, ive done the usual and tested both switchs, my solenoid is a single unit with 2 solenoids in, initially the up was working so i simply swaped the wires to the top solenoid on the the bottom, and strangely enoth the trim went down but not up..

Safe to say its the solenoid! so i took it off and cleaned up the contacts rebuilt it. NOW IT BL##DY DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!! basically its had its day.

But thanks for your reply, theres always somethink you forget to try.

PETE7 thanks also i will call dean now, see if hes got a second hand solenoid

If it's a single unit with 2 solenoids in you could always ask Mike Cripps if you could replace it with a pair of trim/tilt solenoids from an old merc blueband type 1 trim system. They are about £16 each and he sells them.

The solenoid has small wires conected to the top of them.
It is often these break or corrode. I would try to chenge these first.

Kind regards
