Yamaha Digital Tachometer And Speedometer

Hi

We just got a boat wich has both of this gauges on it. As the boat was secondhand there is no manual for the guages, so i was just wondering if any one has thes gauges on their boat or has some knowledge of them.

On one of the guages it tells you the fuel level and the trip distance. We have done 30 miles or so and the fuel tank level has not gone down and we have not been going that slow. The boat's fuel tank is 150lts and the motor is a Yam 150hpdi 2002 motor with 50 hours on the clock. The boat is a 6.5 m ribeye so is this normal fuel consumption or is there something wrong?

Hi Josh

A couple of things come to mind:

1) If you download the HPDI manual from the Yamaha USA website, the gauges are documented.

2) Our boat uses a third party fuel gauge, with nothing hooked up to the Yam fuel connections. This means that the Yam gauge shows full all the time - it is worth you checking that it is connected!

I would expect for the gauge to go down a bit after doing 30 miles, but not that much. If it hasnt moved after another 30 then something is amiss!

Hi

Was out on the boat to day then motor start to slow down me and my m8 look at each outher and the words o sh@t where said. fuel still showing full so i went to the back try to pump fuel nothing so we put about 20L in just to get us over to the fuel pump over the outher side of the river put about 100L in her start up and the fuel went all the way down to the bottem showing empty. Look over to my m8 and we where like bloody gr8. then toped up the oil lev and the oil lev went right down. so we think that who wirer it up has got the wire to the sender the wrong way round .

Any more info on this would be helpful.

Josh

Err that could be quiet serious. Never mind the running out of fuel bit, if the tank sender is the normal type its a variable resistor which sits in the fuel. Wire it up the wrong way and I think you could convert it into a heating element JW or Des will be able to confirm if I am right.
