Yamaha Engine age?

Hi,

May be going to look at a boat with a Yamaha 85 on it. The seller doesn't know how old it is.

It's an 85 AET Serial number 688L417767

Can anyone tell what year it is from the above?

Early '90s. It should be a dark non metallic blue.

Can't be more specific than that off the top of my head.

The Model Year is indicated by a lower case letter in the black field in the lower left or right corner of the ID plate.

Identification - a prerequisite for the right parts

Yamaha is in both two-stroke and four stroke engines in order to easily see if you have a two-stroke and four stroke engine if you look at serial / model number plate starts with an engine the name 'F' (Four Stroke) is a four-stroke

The plate on the engine mounting bracket as shown below:

Mature plate with "punched" year model letter!
- The letter is very difficult to see!
It is located in the lower right or
left corner (see arrows).

F15AEH = "F" four-stroke "15" engine power in HP, "A" is the model, "E" means an electric starter, "H" means that the engine is operated with the tiller "66m" is part of the serial number and can also be the engine "model code" .

"S" means standard shaft length (short shaft)
"201 380" is the rest of the serial number.
The letter "T" at the bottom of the corner is the model year / model code in this case 2000th
