We've got a 2010 Yamaha F40FET that for the last 5 or 6 years has been plagued with issues. It's got about 350 hours on it but pretty often it will just cut out. Once it's cut out we try to start it and occasionally it farts a bit but it's dead as a doornail, if we tip the engine up a lot it starts and runs again and we can tilt it back down but it runs on borrowed time and even if you just putter along at tickover it'll cut out with a wheezing noise after a minute or two and you're back to square one
We've checked the water separator a hundred times, and the medium pressure fuel filter hidden by the cambelt, given it works better when tilted up we suspect there's water in the fuel system somewhere, is there anywhere else we should check? The injectors prime properly with the little electric boost pump and we've had specialists out more times than I have fingers and they've always given it a clean bill of health, only for it to splutter to death shortly after. No codes in the ecu or anything, no errors on the little screen. I'm at a total loss here because it's just unusable as is. Right now the only fully working boat we've got is our little SIB tender
