yamaha ME 372 hydra drive

Can anybody ease my worry,I have the ME 372 yamaha hydradrive unit which i cannot fault
but i have a loud knock when i start and the same knock when the engine stops.The noise appears to be right at the back of the unit but i can`t pinpoint it exactly.Engine and drive have 130 hrs use. cheers jim

Sounds like the drive plate mounts on the back of the flywheel or the Hardy spicer. Try putting the steering hard to port then starboard with the engine running and see if the noise changes if it does its probably the hardy spicer coupling, Yamaha in their wisdom have done away with the grease nipples on the new model. If it is only when you start/stop then its the drive plate mounts.

had to change my rubber mounts on the drive thats attached to the fly wheel due to the knocking noise cost about 450 pounds for the parts i think .it was on a 420sti, oh and you helped too drew of course,
good luck in fixing it.
