Yamaha ME 420 STI
Hello reader,
Right now I'm working with my Yamaha inboard diesel ME 420 STI. The problem is that the glow plugs are not working. The driving relays does not work. I think this is due to the control module, which I know no name. The model number is 6TA-00 F8T71571. It is mounted under the engine next to the driving reais. On the accompanying drawing indicated with arrow.
Do you know where I could get a replacement part?
Hope to hear from you.
With regards,
Bert Hofhuis. The Netherlands.

I'd have a look at the little square relay first. You can rig up a live feed to turn it off and on. If it doesn't then it's a cheap fix replacing a small relay

Dank voor uw bericht,
Het kleine relais heb ik getest en werkt goed. De aansturing vanuit de controlunit werkt volgens mij niet.
Met vriendelike groet,
Bert. .

Sorry now in English.
Thanks for your message,
The small relay I have tested and works well. The drivel from the control unit does not work to me.
With regards
Bert. .

As far as I know it's the same engine as a 1HDT from Toyota Landcruiser, so maybe you can source the parts from a Yota dealer.

The voltage on the plugs is not present. Well now I know part of the name which I look for, it's the preheater.
Thanks for your interest.

Indeed, it is the same engine as the Toyota 1 HD, but has been converted by Yamaha for inboard engine. ME 420 STI. What I seek is the preheater of yamaha for this engine.
Thanks.

You could wire a separate circuit and convert it to a push button on the dash, it only has to come on for about 10 seconds, you could wire a push button to a relay and the relay will cope with the higher amps needs for the heater plugs, in theory you would only need to run one live wire from the dash, the earth can stay in the console and the relay can stay on the engine

Indeed, this should be the solution if I can find no other preheater. Thanks for your message, with regards, Bert.

Have you tried to get a new one from one of the former yamaha dealers.parts are supposed to be available for a minimum no of years after a manufacturer stops production
You could try BBMS in Swanwick or red bay in Ireland I'm sure both were yamaha dealers

Thanks for your interest,
The glow plugs work not at all, the glow plug relay receives no command from the preheater.
With regards,
Bert.

I think you will find that Yamaha build this engine for Toyota not the other way round. I agree with Biff. Run a 12 volt feed and push button through a relay direct to the end glow plug £10 will see the job done. In reality none of the electronic boxes on this model do that much anyway and the engine will run with one 12 volt feed to the stop switch. I have had to hot wire these engines on many occasions Alan P
