Yanmar turbo pricing

Just wondering if anyone has replaced a Yanmar turbo. I've got a 4JH2UTE. Not sure what they cost on the other side of the pond but in the States the dealers want over $1400 for a new turbo. What makes this so lousy is the fact that it's an IHI RHB5 turbo that in any other application can be purchased for under $500. Just wondering what the pricing is elsewhere. I'd certainly pay the shipping for a reasonable price. The IHI turbos are apparently prone to corrosion, anyone else had problems with their turbo?

Cheers,

Lane

If it's a standard turbo can't you get it rebuilt, or get the $500 turbo and change the whizzy bits onto the manifold etc that you have?

if only it was that simple

Most shops want around $900 to $1000 for the rebuild, not a huge difference from a completly new replacement. The two shops that looked at my old turbo said it was too corroded and therfore it wasn't rebuildable. If it was just a matter of replacing the turbo section, (the whizzer thingy) I'd attempt to bolt an old car's turbo on the wastegate but the wastegate is in lousy shape and it's quite specific to Yanmar. I think I'm about to spend $1400 on a turbo...
