Zodaic Pro-advise on auxillary motor please
Hi - I'm new to the forum....
I have a Zodiac Pro open 550 with Honda 90 which I use to explore the south coast. I go for long trips usually alone so I Just picked up a second hand Honda 5hp longstroke for an aux - as it seemed to be about the minimum power for a 5m rib, plus I have the ease of being able to swap fuel supplies etc.
Problem is how to fix it to the boat!
Does anyone have experience of this model or know anyone that might ?
it looks like:-
a) you wont be able to leave the aux on the boat as it might clash with the main motor on tight turns, so can only put on when needed - not ideal
b) I will need to find some way of storing the motor on the boat - but can you lay a 4 stoke down? if so does it matter how?
c) I need an aux bracket which will need to raise the motor up - to reach the tiller, etc (which is ok given I have a long shaft) but given the transom has closed storage boxes on each side it does not look like a standard aux bracket can be fixed on?
1000's of these boats have been sold and I cant beleive I'm the first to try and fit an aux. I've spoken to a few zodiac dealers but none have tried
I'd really appreciate any advise.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Nos4r2, thanks for the reply
I'm based near Highworth. Be good to meet up and any ideas welcome. I reckon i'll have to design something and find a welder!
I'm off to Brixham tomorrow night - taking the rib around Dartmouth and maybe down to Salcombe if the weathers ok on Saturday, then back to Swindon late evening so I'll drop you a PM to meet up sometime next week?
Cheers
Brew

Not since 2002... You'd be hard pressed to find a butter wrapper there now.
