zodiac pro12/opti 90

hi guys, would a 90hp opti be a good match for a zodiac pro 12? i'm wondering if it might be a bit heavy or should i go for a 90hp etec? at the moment i'm running an old dt75 which is okay one up but if i chuck a few more bodies in its pretty slow, so i guess its the age old question of opti or etec! any help would be much appreciated, cheers, nob.

The Pro12 should be fitted with a 90hp engine. Mine has a Suzuki DF90 and its a lovely package. 34 knots flat out.

It sits fine. Is the data plate still on the transom? It should state max hp and engine weight.
I’m not an expert but I would’ve thought a Fourstroke 90hp engine would be heavier than 2stroke.

I have a slightly lighter pro tour 550 ( 2014), which performs pretty good with a Yam f70 even loaded with five people and heaps of gear. In saying that the f70 is around 40kg lighter than many other 70-90 4 strokes.

cheers for the input guys, i'm starting to lean towards a 2010-2014 yamaha 2 stroke just because of weight and its got no magic black boxes or computers to go tits up, the only reason i say those years is because i've got about £3000-£3500 to spend....cheaper the better but want a good solid one thats been well looked after so that seems to be the age range for that sort of money, thanks again, nob.

I had an 1988 Pro 530, which is about the size of the Pro 12. It came with a merc 2st 75hp and was ok. I upgraded to a Merc 115 4st (163kg) and it made about 37.5kts with 2 passengers and holeshot was awesome! Is sat fine in the water and never felt tail heavy. Not sure what the Pro 12 is rated to but the 530 was rated to 120hp.
