6 wire rectifier. mariner 40 msl year 2000

Hi all.
OK I have purchased rectifier with 6 wires.
2 yellow
2 red.
1 black earth.
And one grey.
Now I have a red rotor under the flywheel numerous wires going to the ignition coils and such.
This leaves 2 yellow wires not connected to anything..
Right so what I'm trying to figure out is presumably the 2 yellows from the rotor connect to the 2 yellows on the rectifier.
Black to earth.
Now the 2 reds are baffling me .
I take it that one goes to the positive on the battery but the other red I'm stuck on.
The grey I think is a taco that I don't have and will be blanked off.
So can anyone tell me if I'm correct at thinking this .
And the last red wire is to go where !!!!.
As always I thank you for your input and patience.

The reviews on Amazon for that unit in the USA are pretty bad. I used a motorcycle unit on my old 40HP Evinrude that had nice heat sinks on it.

One thing you will learn is boat parts are often available from outside sources for far less money than a marine dealer.

https://www.amazon.com/Regulator-Rec...8CGHJ318&psc=1

When you removed the old one was it identical?

It never had one when I purchased it Peter

The place where I got it from had cheaper ones this one was specific for mariners. It also came with a tube of heat sink
I guess if it's inferior I will find out sooner or later
Not the way I'd like to find out though

In the absence of any other replies this might be of interest:
https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com...-signal-wires/

I don't know whether the signal wire could be connected directly to battery +ve or whether that would cause problems & a switch needs to be in the circuit so hopefully you'll get the answer from someone else.

The yellow wires are connected to those from your stator & I believe I am right in saying it doesn't matter which way round they are connected.

As ever, I stand to be corrected!

I think your right paintman.
I'm of the assumption that a red goes to the battery and the other to the solenoid when fitted.
And the others as quoted. I'll need to get it checked but I'm confident it is.
Thanks.
