any body know if the standard horizon GPS with VHF built in only available in USA will work in uk

Yes, it will work but it is not CE approved. It will only have US, Canadian and international channels on the VHF. However, you can import at your own risk. I would do it.

I'm sure Jon Brookes will be along shortly. I considered one of these a while back, however, there are two things against it in the UK. 1) it hasn't been type approved to it's illegal to use it and 2) channel 67 is low power except when you press a button to over-ride it. But, it reverts to low power every time you release the ptt switch so if you were talking to the coasties you'd need to press the button before you press the ptt each time you speak. Otherwise, it looks a good piece of kit.
