I think your right. I thought maybe something new had come on the market that would work with the 421.
I might be interested in a very loud but small flush mounted waterproof VHF extension speaker to add to my 421 so I can hear the damn thing when i'm zooming along

i went down the route of the mp3 player to an amp but it just does not put out the power i wanted to give enough volume at speeds

put in one of those av marine headunits then to the amp and this works a treat, not that expensive really either

What mp3 players do people use? I'm wondering if it's not just a symptom of using cheap ones.

I'm using one of these with a 2gb SD card:-

which is utter crap but it's ok through headphones-and one of the Tesco 256 mb ones which is better but still not very good.

Mine is as cheap as possible for when it gets wet, i think its to do with the connections/settings on the head unit + amp i had to play with them to get it right

I got a Boss Marine system as you all know. It worked really well to start off with and then got water inside it and now doesn't do anything but play random bits of cd tracks very loud. The only way to turn it off to to turn all the electonics off or hit it very hard. Suffice to say it will be going back shortly for a replacement. The next one will be mounted in one of those waterprooof front/case things from Marine AV.

When I installed the actual unit I was quite aware that it might not be as waterproof as they claimed it would be. I contemplated on installing it under the bench seat and then just having the remote control on the console. Thinking about it now that's what I should have done; the wired remote seems a lot more waterproof than the main unit. Unforntly I can't really do that now because I'll be left with a huge great hole in the console.

Nos, if your car stereo doesn't work then as someone else says get a unit with a remote and hook it up inside the console with the remote on the outside.

Jimbo will tell you an interesting story about leather jackets if your after someone to call Delboy

Matt,

I use an old MP3 player, its only 128 MB, and it works okay but it runs through a Marine AV Head Unit.

I guess the key is having the head unit there then.

I'll have to try the old Ford stereo.

We have an IPOD into a hidden Marine AV unit, a hidden sub woofer and some quite small 3" speakers which give an amazing amount of sound. I would try the amp with another MP3 player, but I suspect the amp is faulty?

If you ask Marine AV for the same setup BananaShark has then they tell you what works!
