Antenna For S/H GX1500
Can anyone recommend an aerial that likes my Standard Horizon GX1500? My current Rib raider is useless. Black and shortish is good.

Comrod do a range of marine VHF antennas, one of which is a 1 metre stainless whip with a 2:1 gain compared to the 1.5:1 of the rib raider. Plus a number of other longer higher gain models. There are also various accessories including a sprung loaded base.
If you want prices then PM me or any other antenna makes.

This is the Pacific website
http://www.pacificaerials.co.nz/marine/p6101-SMPVA.htm
the one I use is the P6182 with the fold down mount P6111
I bought the whole lot from Yachtbits.com
I also needed a P6018 extension cable as the mount came with 5 meters which was not long enough.

Pacific also have a 45cm heliflex which is available with a number of different mountings (eg plate, deck, rail). Glomex standard 1m GRP is fine, especially with fold down mount as mentioned above - around £35.

If i can nip on this thread and ask a similar question but different. I'm just about to buy a Stahdard Horizon 3000 or 3500 and I have very specific requirements for my antenna. If I use a whip whilst tied up under the rig i get problems I think due to reflections and the fact that I guess the rig's a big floatin Farraday cage. Our portables work well however which makes me think it's height. The best results I've had with a fixed radio was with an emergency antenna fixed inside the cabin.
I'm speccing Helicoils to fix to the cabin roof to see if this helps by reading this thread I guess I'd be going for Gnomex. I must point out that when we are in engaged in diving operations the Mothership is never more than 400metres away unless the DP is broken in whichcase they are never more than 400km away. Only joking we got DP3 vessels so that shouln't really happen

Can I ask if someone could help me spec an Antenna up for me? Would like to get the best I can get but with 6 meters of cable. It will sit on top of THIS which has the right screw thread at the top for an Antenna but unsure how I would then wire it in?
Need approx 6 meters of cable as the poll is 7ft plus worming around the deck out of the way and up into the console.
Sorry to rob your thread Mollers.

The Pacific gets my vote too, fitted a few now and all seem to hold up well to the world of RIB's also fitted them to PWC's and again worked well.
There is always a bit of loss of performace with these shorter type antenna's but have been impressed with this one.
Were only available in white but now in black too!!
cheers

Metz??
Had a pair of Glomex on the last rib. Great performance, and a spare ready in case there was a problem.
I have a Rib Raider on the new boat and it is asolutely useless.
I am beginning to think that there is no substitute for length hence gain.
Anyone tried Metz?? The spec looks excellent but expensive.

funnily enough I'm listening to a harry potter audiobook ATM and it's the one where they have to degnome the garden.
I think I'm going to go and see Geoffs ( a clever man BTW) and se what he reckons.

We have had consistently poor results with Ribraiders, I thought it was my instalation but re-checked it and concluded it was the antenna sadly.
Pacific look excellent I'd also looked at Metz, we're selling the Delta now but one of the new boat choices looks like its fitted with duplex Ribraiders. If we do buy this boat I'll monitor performance. Must say we didnt have this poor performance with the Glomex previously even though it had been snapped in half and glassed back together.

I'm trying to get a price out of Geoffs for a Comrod set-up as he recommended. I think he's disappeared down to the end of the garden with the G'nomes and the W'ulffs.
